Ten days is the sweet spot for a first trip to Greece — enough time to see Athens properly and settle into the rhythm of two islands without feeling rushed. This is the itinerary we recommend most often. For the full destination overview, start with our Greece travel guide.
Arrive and spend your first full day at the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, ideally at opening time to beat both the heat and the crowds. Day two, wander the Plaka and Anafiotika neighborhoods, visit the ancient Agora, and end with a rooftop dinner overlooking the illuminated Parthenon. For a deeper cultural grounding before you island-hop, see our Athens & Ancient Greece guide.
Fly or take a high-speed ferry to Santorini. Base yourself in Oia or Imerovigli for the caldera views. Spend a day exploring the island's black-sand beaches and the ancient ruins of Akrotiri, and don't skip a sunset catamaran cruise around the caldera — it's the single best way to see the island from the water.
A short ferry hop brings you to Mykonos, a total change of pace — livelier, more social, and famous for its windmills and Little Venice. Spend a day on Elia or Agios Sostis beach, and an evening watching sunset from the windmills. Curious which island suits you best? Our Santorini vs. Mykonos guide breaks down the differences in depth.
Mykonos has direct flights to Athens and several European hubs, making it an easy final stop before heading home.
