I consider Amsterdam one of Europe's most liveable and beautiful cities. Its historic canal ring, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built during the Dutch Golden Age, is a masterpiece: elegant 17th-century merchant houses reflected in dark water, bicycle bells chiming, stroopwafels drifting from the morning markets.

I always send clients to the Rijksmuseum for the world's greatest collection of Dutch Golden Age painting — Rembrandt, Vermeer, Hals. The Van Gogh Museum is another one I love, and the Anne Frank House is, in my opinion, one of the most moving historical sites in Europe.

I like to remind clients the Netherlands has depth beyond Amsterdam too. The tulip fields of the Bollenstreek in spring are one of my favorite seasonal events in Europe. I love Delft's near-perfectly preserved canal-lined old town, and the windmills of Kinderdijk at sunset are an image that stays with me.

I craft my Dutch itineraries beyond the obvious: private access to museum collections, behind-the-scenes flower auction visits, curated canal-house hotel stays, and bike journeys through polders and tulip country most travellers never discover.
